Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Wilmington OH
309 PM EDT Fri May 30 2025
.SYNOPSIS...
A weak cold front will move through the region tonight into
Saturday, bringing yet another chance for showers tonight and early
Saturday. High pressure will then build in for the first part of
next week.
&&
.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Lingered the widespread showers into late afternoon in central Ohio,
so a fairly brief lull between rain associated with departing
surface low/marginal instability associated with secondary upper
short wave pushes through and the next chances for precipitation with
the weak frontal boundary pushing south overnight.
Some lifting of the lower clouds in western Ohio/eastern Indiana,
before the secondary shortwave brings in renewed clouds and chance of
showers with isolated thunderstorms especially near/after midnight.
NW winds gusting to 20-25mph as the cold front approaches toward
12z. Overnight lows generally in the low-mid 50s.
&&
.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/...
As the frontal boundary pushes south of the area, it lingers in
central/northern KY through the day on Saturday, becoming a focus for
scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms on Saturday. North of
the frontal boundary, much drier air will work into the region under
NW flow. Temperatures will remain unseasonably cool as the region is
still dominated by the departing upper trough. Highs on Saturday in
the mid 60s to near 70, with lows on Saturday night about 15 degrees
below normal in the mid 40s.
&&
.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
A l/w upper trough will cross the region early Sunday, followed by
north-northwest flow. This cold and dry air will be brought in at
this level through the overnight, then ridging in the Plains reaches
the Midwest by late Monday. The ridge axis is over the CWA near 12Z
Tues. GFS and Canadian models turn flow southwest while the European
maintains the ridge axis over the CWA through 18Z Wed. This is due
to the Euro pinching off a good bit of energy from the l/w trough in
the Southeast and developing that into a cutoff low. Canadian also
supports a weaker cutoff low, but keeps the low offshore by a good
bit. This supports the thought processes that the Euro`s later
timing of the upper ridge is out of place. However this low works
out, models are in agreement that a sw-ne oriented surface low
centered near Chicago at daybreak Wed will move to the northeast on
Wednesday. The cold front associated with the low will stall over nw
CWA and then be pushed through later Thurs night. Impulses tracking
ne along/nw of the stalled front will bring a continues source of
large scale lift to support rain over the region through this longer
time frame. Showers and thunderstorms should end nw-se before
daybreak Fri as high pressure to the north brings cooler and drier
air on northerly winds.
Rainfall will be limited to the northwest CWA on Wed, nw half of CWA
overnight, and then be more or less widespread in the region for
daylight hours Thurs through much of the overnight.
Temps near 70 on Sun will warm to the upper 70s Mon, 80-85 Tue, max
out on Wed 85-90. Behind the front Thurs, they will drop to within a
few degrees of 80 and then be cooler in the upper 70s Fri. The
higher precip potential in the nw on Wed will cut max temps severely
if showers are realized during the afternoon.
&&
.AVIATION /19Z FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
KLCK/KCMH still experiencing MVFR visibility restrictions in rain,
whereas other locations mostly VFR with PROB30 thunderstorms and
MVFR through about 22z. As the secondary disturbance/cold front drops
south through the region between 03-09z, another round of showers
expected, but expected to remain VFR, though wind gusts to 20-22kts
with the FROPA. Expecting cigs in the lower MVFR range in the wake of
the frontal passage near KILN/KCMH/KLCK.
OUTLOOK...Potential for scattered showers and storms on Wednesday to
possibly bring a return to MVFR conditions.
